About Us

The Ujima Health Connection is a community oriented health education organization dedicated to improving lives.

Our name derives from the third principle of Kwanzaa, Ujima, pronounced ‘oo-Jee-mah,’ which means ‘Collective work and responsibility. This requires us to build and maintain our community together, make our neighbors problems our problems, and to solve them together.

This epitomizes the goals and purpose of the Ujima Health Connection. We are a non-profit organization that works in collaboration with other NGO’s and faith-based organizations to educate the less-served communities on the core health issues, and to provide a vehicle for making healthy life-style changes in today’s challenging environment of fast foods, food deserts, workplace stress, and changing social-family dynamics.

By working together, ‘collectively,’ in our churches (health ministries) in our communities (community health workers) and  at work (worksite health initiatives) and establishing a greater appreciation of ‘responsibility,’ for one’s health, we can restore and maintain the health of all our communities.
